Restringing questions

How much does pearl restringing cost?

Pearl restringing costs $115 for a 16-inch necklace bought from American Pearl, including double-knotted silk and free insured shipping both ways. South Sea strands are restrung through our South Sea restringing service. For longer strands, multi-strand pieces or bracelets, call 1-800-847-3275 for a quote.

How long does pearl restringing take?

Pearl restringing takes up to 3 weeks from the day your necklace arrives at our workshop, plus shipping time each way. We cannot do restringing from November 21, 2026 to January 20, 2027 due to the busy holiday season. Orders placed during that time will be restrung starting January 21.

How often should pearls be restrung?

Pearls should be restrung once a year if you wear them several times a week; pearls worn occasionally can go longer. Restring sooner if you see gaps between the knots, a stretched or discolored thread, or a loose clasp.

Why are pearls knotted between each one?

Pearls are knotted between each one because a knot between every pearl keeps them from rubbing against each other and wearing the nacre. If the thread ever breaks, you lose at most one pearl instead of the whole strand.

Do you restring pearls bought elsewhere?

American Pearl’s restringing service is for pearls purchased from American Pearl. For pearls from another jeweler, call 1-800-847-3275 and we will tell you what we can do.
