American Pearl touts 3D-printed jewelry, engagement rings
Fox News covered how American Pearl, a fixture of New York’s Diamond District since 1950, began letting customers configure rings and jewelry online in gold, silver or platinum. Each design is printed as a wax model on a Solidscape 3D printer, then cast, so pieces are made to order in the USA.
The story reported that sales doubled year over year in November 2013, that making a new design dropped from about two weeks to one day, and that prices came in at a fraction of traditional retail. Eddie Bakhash described the technology as very disruptive for the U.S. jewelry industry.
Fox Business then interviewed Eddie Bakhash on air in a segment titled “3D-printed bling.” The story was also picked up by Bloomberg Businessweek’s small-business roundup and by 3ders.org.
