3D Printing Recreates Long-Lost Family Heirlooms
Tom’s Guide reported on the Jewelry Replicator, a then-new American Pearl service that takes a photograph of a piece of jewelry, even an old wedding portrait, and turns it into a 3D digital model that can be printed and cast in precious metal.
The article notes that the modeling step is free, that customers then choose whether to order the piece, and that pricing depends on the metal and stones. American Pearl president Eddie Bakhash told the publication there is no minimum photo resolution, and that the company will not reproduce copyrighted designs.
