Tahitian pearls are cultured in the Pinctada Magaritifera oyster, one of the largest oysters in the world, enabling production of pearls measuring from 8mm all the way to 15mm.

I have made several purchases from American Pearl in the past year. First, a set of Akoyas, followed by two Tahitian pearl necklaces (wife and mom). I have been impressed by the quality and value offered by American Pearl. I have shopped and purchased from its competitors, only to return those purchases because I received better value and a higher quality product from American Pearl. Don't be fooled by other vendor's AAA ratings--there is apparently no uniform grading system, so vendors can make up whatever grades they want for their products. American Pearl has proven that it sells the finest quality pearls for the money. Eddie is terrific and very attentive. I had a special request for a custom order for a pair of Tahitian earrings for my mom. He went out of his way to fill the order quickly and the price was more than fair (more than $200 less than his competitors!!). Next year I am going to give American Diamond (sister company) a shot for a pair of diamond studs for my wife.
