|Black Akoya Pearl Necklaces|
Elegant and enchanting, richly colored black Japanese Akoya pearl necklaces are some of our most highly admired styles of pearl jewelry. The fashionable pieces are made with rare cultured black pearls, harvested from Japanese Akoya oysters. The oysters are found off the coast of Japan, where waters are cool and calm. While traditional Akoya pearls appear in shades of white or cream, Akoya black pearls have a dramatic black color, but maintain their size, shape and lustrous iridescence. They are similar in appearance to a Tahitian pearl.

Black Akoya pearls were created in response to the demand for darker pearls in smaller sizes. Japanese pearl makers developed a method of darkening pearls known as a French Dye, which results in darker hues that are similar to Tahitian pearls. The coloration process is guaranteed for life by American Pearl and the Japan Pearl Exporter's Association, so you will never have to worry about your pearls losing their color or richness.
Our black Japanese Akoya pearl necklaces are 16 inches in length. They are available in a variety of pearl sizes, ranging from 6 mm to 10 mm in diameter. Our black Akoya pearls are uniform in color and may have rose, green or silver overtones. Necklaces come with a standard decorative clasp, available in your choice of yellow or white gold.
