Description
This 8 to 11.8mm white Australian south sea cultured pearl necklace has an interesting background. Known as the "baby south seas", these pearls are the smallest that the Pinctada Maxima oyster can produce. Farmers know that if they keep these babies in the water for just a little bit longer, they can yield twice the price. So as far as rarity goes, you seldom see pearls like this. Like most south sea pearls, these exhibit a white bodycolor with a silver overtone unlike the Japanese akoya cultured pearls (available in both silver and rose overtones). South sea pearls come from a different oyster than Akoya pearls and therefore simply look different. As you can see from the close up (by clicking on the image of the necklace), these pearls are perfectly round, high luster and FLAWLESS. American Pearl does not deal with blemished, marked pearls. Blemished pearls whose surfaces show imperfections or spots are worth half the value of perfectly clean pearls. Because the pearls we purchase from our farmers consistently and continuously for the last 50 years are the top 1% of the harvest, you can be sure that the pearls offered to you from American Pearl are indeed finer and cleaner than any pearls offered to your from an outside source.
They do make the mark of "A" quality, the highest grade of the A, B, C and D nomenclature assignged to grade south sea pearls. This necklace is 16 inches long and strung on silk thread, hand knotted with American Pearl's Signature Figure Eight Clasp. Price: $6500
