Black Japanese Akoya Pearl Necklace
Japanese Akoya pearls are usually white, grey, creme and even blue. However, black pearls are never seen. The only source for natural color black pearls are the Tahitian islands that are a part of French Polynesia. However, these black Tahitian South Sea pearls are not available in the smaller sizes. As such, the inventive Japanese pearl farmers have come up with a process to enhance their pearls to make them black. This method is known as a French Dye, a process which is guaranteed for life by American Pearl and the Japan Pearl Exporter's Association. |
